Costa Rica Culture

Costa Rica’s rich and diverse cultural heritage represents the vibrant and colorful blend of indigenous, African, and European cultures that laid the foundation for Costa Rica’s contemporary identity.

The country’s richly diverse population has absorbed influences from many parts of the globe, yet it retains its unique Pura Vida character.

Costa Rica has long had a reputation as a nation of immigrants, but this is only half the story. At its heart, Costa Rica is a multicultural nation, and the different cultural strands created by the country’s various settlers and immigrants have blended into one distinctive identity that continues to shape Costa Rican society and politics today.

Simply a Welcoming, Open Doors Pura Vida Way of Life.

Pura Vida translates to “Pure Life” or “Simple Life” in Spanish. Primarily due to our Costa Rican culture and Tico attitudes. We are known for being much more laid-back and carefree. There’s no need to be concerned when you’re in paradise. Pura Vida is both a greeting and a farewell, an answer to the question “How are you?” and an expression spoken on happy occasions.
